Patient of the Month - July 2019

I'd like to introduce to you our VERY FIRST Patient of the Month, John Rufino!!!

John competing at The Asbury Summer Games on the 20th of June!

John is an incredibly hard working CrossFit athlete who has learned how to face adversity and put his health first. John and I go back to 2015 when I joined my first CrossFit gym, and watching him continually grow as an athlete over the last 4 years has been nothing short of remarkable!

John contacted me about 3 months ago complaining of shoulder, low back and hip pain. We identified dysfunctional movement patterns under loaded and unloaded squat variations - back squat, front squat, wall balls, thrusters, cleans, snatches, etc. that were caused by previous injuries, immobility and compensations. The repetitive faulty movement led to discomfort, pain, missed lifts, and eventually missed days at the gym.

Through movement education and a lot of hard work, John has now PR'd most of his lifts, Fran, and benchmark workouts from his gym in these past 3 months!

Back Squat: 365lb

Deadlift: 480lb

Power Clean: 265lb

Clean: 305lb

Jerk: 245lb

Clean & Jerk: 235lb

Snatch: 160lb

And if that weren't enough, he can also now consistently string together bar muscle ups!

WAY TO GO JOHN!! Read below to learn a little bit more about how awesome he is!

"I grew up with an active life playing football for 10 years and lacrosse for 12 years. In 2009 I decided I was going to enlist in the United States Marine Corps and began CrossFit to get back in shape before I joined. I resumed CrossFit in 2012 to maintain my fitness for the Marines and as a creative outlet. I do CrossFit to become the best version of myself, make 8 hours of manual labor easier, and it grants me the opportunity to co-mingle with people from all walks of life."

John competing at The Belmar Beatdown on July 20th!

"I train CrossFit 5-6 days a week at CrossFit 908 in Berkeley Heights, NJ and actively compete locally to prove my fitness is working. I encourage others regardless of skill level to try a competition to get a better understanding of their fitness and to motivate themselves further."

"Competition training puts a lot of demand on your body, I LOVE lifting heavy, aches and pains come with the territory. Physical Therapy with Hanna is insurance to enhance fun inside and outside the gym. Not only is Hanna my friend, she takes her time to understand my training habits and takes an individualized approach to my treatment. Not only have we minimized injuries, I’ve seen substantial increases in my fitness. OTB Physical Therapy is true to the name to continue living your best life inside and outside the gym!” - John Rufino
